Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it so it goes on flying anyway.

Mary Kay Ash (1918 – 2001)

Mary Kay AshHow many things have you been able to accomplish when others thought it wasn’t possible?

I was nearly 40 when I overheard my father telling a neighbor he used to tell me something couldn’t be done because he knew I would figure out how to get it done.

I would have like to have known that then, but it was still great to know all those years later. He really had confidence in my capabilities.

I was 35 when I was able to take him on a flight in a 152 when I flew it home for the day. He told me how proud of me he was. It was a great moment for me.

When I think back on all the times I achieved things I never thought I could possibly do.

  • When I was in the 10th grade I grabbed the microphone during a power outage and strummed a guitar, which I had never been able to play, while reading a Pat Paulson script, just to avoid dead air at the event.
  • I won first place soloist as a base clarinetist for all of Northern California high schools.
  • I came in third in a mixed boys and girls marathon.
  • I was head cheerleader.
  • I was the school editor of our newspaper
  • I launched the Future Business Leaders organization
  • I got the lead role in the Christmas Play
  • I was the Homecoming Queen my senior year
  • I was Vice President of the student council
  • I got my pilot’s license
  • I raced auto cross
  • I won first placed first in down hill skiing
  • I can use most power tools as well as most men

I have been an over achiever most of my life. I truly enjoy accomplishing things that are not normal.

My problem solving techniques are exceptional and I am always looking for ways of making the world a better place.

Celebrating Women

  • Posted on July 5, 2010 at 7:40 am

It is important to remember celebrate the women who have been influential in your life. Who has influenced you and the decisions you have made throughout your life?

I have been privileged throughout my life to have had so many women of influence. More so since my own mother never learned how to be a mother. It’s not necessary to have had a good mother to be able to appreciate what strong positive women can mean to you and the outcome of your life.

I finally realized that every experience and every person who has ever come into my life has lead me to who I am today. That means even my mother’s influence created my personality, preferences and guidelines as to how I would live my life.

I like who I am and who I have turned out to be. Therefore, every woman, including my mother has had a positive effect on my life. They have molded me to be the kind of woman who is sensitive and caring.

Can you think of at least ten women who have been a major influence on your life? Have you ever thought of how much they have offered you the opportunity to become a better person or changed you in many ways?

Take the time to acknowledge these women and let them know how much you appreciate their influence.
